An Ocean Landfill: Current International Ocean Pollution Regulation Inefficiencies and the "National Sword" of Solutions
"Recyclables are products that may be processed again for a future use. Members of society are encouraged to recycle products as much as possible to aid in environmental conservation. However, the endpoint of these discarded recyclables is not the blue bin at the end of your driveway nor the local dumpsites that you rush to roll up your car window for on your morning commute to work. In fact, it is likely that the water bottle you “recycled” this morning will either end up in a foreign country thousands of miles away or floating in the abyss of the ocean to slowly break down into microscopic pieces. Depending on the route, if you were to take a boat from the coast of California to the beaches of Hawaii, the scenery along the way may be overwhelming. For about 1.6 million square kilometers your boat would be forging through the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP), an accumulation of over 1.8 trillion plastic pieces.1 The GPGP is the largest of five offshore plastic accumulation zones in the world.2 While roughly twenty percent of the GPGP’s plastic debris stems from the ocean industries, the remaining eighty percent stems from land-based sources and bears witness to today’s throwaway culture."

Chosen Song: "Easy on Me" by Adele
In my video, I primarily manipulated my text with keyframes. For instance, I would change the scale of the text and utilize keyframes to create the illusion that my text was flying backwards into the background (almost like the Star Wars opening texts). Additionally, I altered the opacity of my text many times alongside keyframes to smoothly fade out the words or transition into the next sentence. I also had a lot of fun altering the position and rotation of the text to create animated moments that emphasized or illustrated the point of a sentence. Finally, I utilized constant gain at the end of my audio to fade out the video.
